Facebook cell phone rumors carry on although there was an official decline

You may have surfed the Web Sunday. If you did, then you also probably noticed about the rumors of a Facebook phone. Facebook states it is not true. A Facebook phone supported by 500,000 Facebook members to rival Apple’s iPhone and Android phones seems like a clear development within the midst of the craze over Smartphone’s. But in spite of Google’s world domination, the Nexus One quickly faded into oblivion. Microsoft had a worse destiny. Its Kin was worse off. Facebook previously looked into getting a Facebook phone. Right now, it completely denies building a phone though. Many think that a Facebook phone is unnecessary which is why it would not do well. Numerous think that Facebook should be working on the little things before getting its own development platform. For instance, many think Facebook should work on its apps on all Smartphone’s.

Possibility of a Facebook phone

The Facebook phone story first broke on TechCrunch. Like Apple with the iPhone, Facebook is working with a third party manufacturer in secret to build phone software, states Michael Arrington. Arrington thinks that the reason a developer left the Google Chrome project in June was to work on the cell phone for Facebook. He thinks that a phone for Facebook would call a friend’s name rather than a number and would be really affordable.

Just a rumor for Facebook

Facebook has had lots of gossips spread about it recently, including the Facebook phone. Facebook said to CNET that it is more interested in integrating with Smartphone’s instead of making their own. CNN explains that Facebook has its idea leaked often. It also will just get rid of any leaked ideas. In 2008 rumors arose about a Facebook music service to compete with MySpace Music, however no such service has yet emerged. One more competitor idea that never took place was “Facebook Wallet.” Facebook was expected to compete against PayPal. Facebook made an announcement about that earlier this year. It can be working with EBay’s PayPal to create a new service called Facebook Credits.

Facebook isn’t the competition

John C. Abell at Wired thinks there would be no purpose for a Facebook cell phone. ”The tail wagging the dog” is what Abell says the idea of a Facebook cell phone is. He is pretty sure that nobody would be willing to give up their iPhone or Android just to get a Facebook cell phone. Developing Facebook applications is what Robert Scobe at Business Insider thinks Facebook should do. He discusses different deficiencies. These include contacts, photos and video. He also said Facebook’s main platform is lacking compared to other services. Even following the company’s explosive growth, the only advantage the Facebook platform has over others is 500,000 users.
