The 41st season of “Sesame Street” was designed to begin with an episode with a special celeb appearance. Most already know that Katy Perry was intended to star in it. The show is known for the celebrities that come on it, that means Perry, as it is a popular children’s show. Or it would have been, if her episode had not been modified in a panic at the last moment due to a supposedly racy music video with the “Street’s” modern kingpin, Elmo. Elmo gave his thoughts on it.
Elmo went to George Stephanopoulos on ‘Good Morning America’
The New York Times reports that Elmo was prepared to defend his new-found friend. Katy Perry’s mostly-covered breasts were inappropriate for kids to view on the show, as outlined by many parents. This brought on the show with special appearances from Elmo, Super Grover and Carol-Lynn Parente, “Sesame Street” Executive Producer.
The pulled song in question, a parody of Miss Perry’s pop hit “Hot ‘N Cold,” revolves around Elmo and Perry getting together for a play date. It’s easy to find on YouTube. Elmo isn’t interested in playing with Perry although she was ready. She has even gone to the trouble of getting in her best dress-up clothes (a low-cut dress that isn’t revealing). Parents do not like it. That is why there is so much controversy. Everybody has decided to comment. This is the new “cause” being fought for on both sides.
”Sesame Street” would “never, never produce anything that we thought was inappropriate,” Parente told Stephanopoulos. ”Sesame Street” was just seeking to get a wider variety in the audience with younger parents. That is why Katy Perry seemed like the perfect fit. But the backlash clearly caused the production team to throw up its hands and give in to the base political instinct of the vocal minority.
Elmo, as a 3 and a half year old monster, said that he hoped Perry would come have a play date again sometime on “Sesame Street”.
”Elmo loves Miss Katy,” was his response.

Not to be outdone, Super Grover took a parting shot at Puritanical parents. He asked Stephanopoulos if he liked his new super costume. Next he made his joke. He said, “It is not too revealing, is it?”
