The NHTSA is in charge of the investigation of Toyota. The investigation is about vehicles suddenly speeding up, which now brought new info to the table. Takeshi Uchiyamada, executive vice president of research and development, was the one who gave this details to us. According to Automotive News, Uchiyamada has announced that a software bug has been detected that causes the crash data boxes in Toyota automobiles to provide incorrect rate of speed data.
Aren’t data recorders, just crash data boxes
Toyota explained that event data recorders (EDR) had troubles that needed to be worked out throughout the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration investigation. Later Uchiyamada explained that “We have been able to determine that there is no defect in the event data recorders.”. He was referring to the device’s mechanics, as the problem was a software bug that has reportedly been corrected. The EDR is there to record info related to position of throttle and during the time of collision, how much pressure was applied to the break. Sources say crash data boxes are there mostly to record speed.
Toyota Motors claiming there are no electronic glitches
After reviewing data from among the 3,000 unintended acceleration complaints they received, Toyota pronounced with certainty that electronic errors did not cause the vehicles to accelerate out of control. The problem was caused by bad floor mats, foreign objects, driver error and numerous other causes. The automaker declared t his. Electronic problems weren’t found by the NHTSA either. Numerous have no idea if the crash data box is reliable or not. It is still questioned. Suspicion mostly arose as a result of crash data form 2007 showing a Toyota Tundra pickup driving at 170 mph. ”The EDR can’t be trusted” when it comes to was Uchiyamada’s reaction.

Automotive News reports that Toyota has recalled more than 13 million automobiles worldwide since November 2009. More than 10 million of those, most related to unintended acceleration, were in the United States of America alone.
